Egypt Ice Hockey Announces Participation and Rosters For The 2022 International Latam Cup

Egypt Ice Hockey Pharaohs announced today the rosters for the 2022 International Latam Cup. The Tournament will be held in Coral Springs, Florida USA. The key Tournament sponsors are the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Florida Panthers (NHL Team).

The 2022 LATAM Cup Tournament will Feature forty-four (44) International Hockey Teams, Six Divisions and 750 Players. This includes but is not limited to the following teams from Argentina, Brazil, the Caribbean, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. The Tournament will be played in the Florida Panthers Ice Den in South Florida from Wednesday, September 14, 2022 through Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022.

Egyptian Pharoahs Men’s Head Coach Yasser Ahmed states, “ We are very excited to be part of this great tournament to help grow ice hockey in non-traditional countries!”

The Pharaohs Mens DII roster includes seventeen (17) Egyptian players, led by Captains: Sameh Ramadan (USA), Abdurrahman Mustapha (USA), Hossam Abdelaal (Canada), and Michel Tebechrani (Canada). The Pharaohs Under 16 Team includes eleven (11) Egyptian players from around the world including Egypt, Canada, and the United States.

Egyptian U16 Head Coach Sameh Ramadan states, “We are very excited to bring two teams to compete in the International Latam Cup. For the first time ever, a U16 Team comprised of both male and female players will wear an Egypt Ice Hockey Jersey.”

14-18, 2022. The Egypt Ice Hockey Pharaohs team will be represented by Egyptians from the United States, Canada and Egypt.

 

 

 

Egypt Ice Hockey History

Currently in Africa only 5 countries have established Ice Hockey Programs. Of these counties only 4 are members of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF (South Africa, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco). We would like to make Egypt number 5.

In 2002, a few local players began playing ice hockey at the Maadi Family Land ice rink we now call our headquarters. Without nets and barley any equipment, these players introduced Cairo to live hockey for the first time. Quickly word spread and the sport grew. Club Teams were established, a regular time slot for the games was created and a tournament league formed. Currently, there are more than 100 ice hockey players playing in Egypt.

February 2016, after years of preparation, Egypt was formally invited to the First African Ice Hockey Cup of Champions. The countries participating were Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and the host country Morocco.

September 2016, Cairo Anubis vs International Anubis Club Teams exhibition match. Players and Egyptian Expats from the USA and Canada played vs our Local Team. The Match was held at our sister rink in Genena Mall. Over 200 spectators watched the 1.5-hour match. It was the most competitive Ice Hockey match ever played in Egypt.

October 2016, The Egypt Ice hockey club was accepted to be represented in the International Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. This museum is the most popular hockey museum in the world with over 300,000 visitors’ annually. Proudly Egypt will now be represented with the best in history. In November 2016 four members of the Anubis Team including two board members traveled to the Hall of Fame as guests for the showcase unveiling.

September 2017, The Pharaohs Club team made history by winning Egypt’s first International Ice Hockey match vs Morocco Club (B) 3-2 in Montreal, Canada. It was the first-time Egyptian players from Egypt, the USA and Canada played together.

April 2018, The Pharaohs club participates in the first Arab Club Cup in Abu Dhabi UAE. Teams included clubs from Lebanon, UAE, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.

The Pharaohs win their first international tournament match vs the Corsairs Club from Algeria, 8-7.

February 2020, The pharaohs club participates in the Arab Professional Club Championship in Kuwait City Kuwait. Teams Included Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The team finished with a 2-3 record for a fourth-place finish.

April 20, 2021, Egypt Ice Hockey becomes the sole program officially recognized by the Egyptian Olympic Committee. Ice Hockey Committee Members Include: Eng. Sharif Elerian (Olympic Committee Secretary General), Sameh Ramadan, Yasser Ahmed, Sheref Elbassiouny, Nancy Hadi, Eman Abdelhafeez Eshmawy, Mahmoud Ghonaim, Ahmed Ramadan and Khalid Abdelrahman.

October 2021, Egypt hosts the Ice Hockey Experience 2021 (EIHE 2021), at the ice rink in Cairo’s Genena Mall, Nasr City. The tournament was held between 24 October and 26 October and was organized by Egypt Ice Hockey and Egypt Winter Sports, and held under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth & Sports and in partnership with the Egyptian National Olympic Committee (ENOC) and Canada’s Friendship League.

September 2022, Egypt Ice Hockey Participates in the 2022 International Latam Cup. Two Teams are sent: Mens DII and U16 (Under 16) For the first time a Youth “Futures” Team participates with a roster of boys and girls (another First).
